Online Advent calendar
Caritas Australia has developed an online Advent calendar based on the ancient Christian symbol of the Jesse tree. In the centuries before most ordinary people could read, this was used to depict characters of the Old Testament.

When Marguerite Ryan finished working with the Christian Brothers’ Foundation eight years ago, she thought her trips to Kenya were over. But since 2005 she has made 11 more self-funded trips as chairwoman of ‘Women for Women in Africa’, a Melbourne-based ecumenical and interfaith group that provides education for children and life-skills support to women living in the Kibera Slum in Kenya. Marguerite estimates the group, which has more than 500 donors, has educated 2000 children in that time, and given a start in life to many otherwise disempowered women.
